Holistic Healing Enhances Therapeutic Relaxation To complement the range of spa treatments at The Peninsula Spa by ESPA, the luxurious spa now offers Reiki healing sessions. Guests start their journey with a private consultation with one of the skilled therapists, who has undergone training to perform energy work on the body’s chakras. And one can simply choose between 60-, 90- and 120-minute full-on Reiki sessions, as well as treatments that form a combination of massage and Reiki. “Our therapists have been expertly trained to allow the automatic flow of healing energy,” says Sharon Codner, Regional Spa Director at The Peninsula Spa by ESPA. “This is a very subtle, unobtrusive process and guests often do not even realise that their therapist is performing Reiki on them – although many remark how deeply relaxed and serene they feel afterwards.” Codner clearly sees the growing need for more holistic therapies to address deeper issues, as Reiki encourages healing and relaxation on a much more profound level. “The high level of work-life balance-related stress that many of our guests experience today manifests itself in ways beyond mere physical knots, aches and pains,” says Codner. “Reiki addresses the emotional imbalances that are often the by-product of our stressed, on-the-go lives, where many of us have very little time to reflect on – let alone address – the root causes of our individual ailments. Reiki healing holistically targets these deep-rooted issues by re-aligning the energy within us in order to achieve a greater sense of emotional balance and well-being, deeply complementing the properties of each spa treatment.” The therapists’ hands are often guided to areas of stress and tension. Furthermore, the practitioners may share certain sensations right after the treatment or point out emotions that may surface for the guest to address following a session. And even though one-off treatments are perfectly fine. Codner also recommends a whole course of Reiki-based treatments to ensure that energies are fully restored. Therapists trained in First Degree Reiki are able to heal themselves and others, while those taught Second Degree Reiki use specialised symbols to harness positive energy in order to heal remotely. While all Peninsula Spa therapists have been trained in First Degree Reiki, some have also received Second Degree Reiki tutelage, which directly precedes becoming a Third Degree Reiki Master. All Peninsula Spa therapists have been trained by Reiki Master Teacher and co-founder of the Shakti Healing Circle, Pervin Clasper. “They were really excited to learn it,” Clasper says about training the 16 therapists at The Peninsula. “Most of them wanted to do the next level, and they might not call themselves healers. But even when you’re a masseuse for instance, you’re still a healer. You’re helping the other person who’s very stressed, and you’re relaxing them. And probably for the next week, the person has got the benefits of being much calmer and having more clarity. It’s wonderful. Everyone who’s doing a facial now or a massage will know that they will get an added benefit.” Guests are encouraged to arrive at the spa 60 minutes prior to their treatment in order to make use of all the spa facilities, including The Asian Tea Lounge, the Thermal Suite with Crystal Steam Room, the Sauna with harbour views and the Relaxation Areas.
Feel the healing power of Reiki at The Peninsula Spa by ESPA at HK$ 1,000 for a standalone 60-minute course of therapy; HK$ 1,500 for 90 minutes and HK$ 2,000 for two hours of Reiki healing. Should guests wish to include Reiki healing in a facial or massage, the total price includes the Reiki treatment price, as well as the price of the second treatment.
