Tibetan Buddhist Master in the Drukpa Lineage Visits Hong Kong

After completing a second Inward Journey meditative retreat hosted by Amanjiwo at Borobudur, one of the world’s oldest and most important shrines for Buddhist pilgrimage, Khandro Thrinlay Chodon (Khandro-la) is visiting for the first time Hong Kong from October 10 – 16, 2011.

Trained since childhood in the Drukpa Kagyu tradition of Buddhism, Khandro-la is a lay, Tibetan Buddhist teacher who holds her family's yogic spiritual lineage. Her great grandfather, Togden Shakya Shri, was a fully realized master in Dzogchen and Mahamudra renowned for teaching the highest levels of Vajrayana practice. Her father Apho Rinpoche was responsible for reviving the Drukpa Kagyu tradition in Northern India and was also one of the first spiritual masters to give teachings to students from the West.

Khandro-la began her spiritual training as a young child under the tibetan_buddhist_khandrolate Gegen Khyentse Rinpoche, a master of the Six Yogas of Naropa and Mahamudra, from whom she received all the empowerments, transmissions and teachings of her lineage. She also studied with the late Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and practiced solitary retreat in the mountains of Nepal under the guidance of the late Kyabje Sengdrak Rinpoche. Having studied both Eastern and Western approaches to spiritual psychology, she earned her B.A. in Psychology at Punjab University, Chandigarh, and M.A. in East-West Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco.

Since the death of her husband His Holiness Ngawang Jigme, the 9th Shabdrung of Bhutan, in 2003 Khandro-la has focused on bringing the wisdom and teachings of her lineage to the West and on the humanitarian and spiritual work of her trust, Khachodling. Khachodling engages in spiritual and humanitarian projects such as hermitages for women, eye restoration for nomadic people, traditional medical care and education for poor children in the remote Indian Himalayas.

As a lay and female teacher Khandro-la brings a fresh and relevant perspective to her talks and teachings. She concentrates on bringing the truths and wisdom of her ancient lineage to life in our modern world and grounding them in intention and action. A great opportunity to learn more about Tibetan Buddhism – during her visit she will teach and transmit Shakya Shri’s Mind Terma for Chenrezig, hold a Candlelight Puja and conduct a meditation talk and workshop. Individual healings and consultations can be made with advance booking.
