Mark Nelson Guides Us to Meet Spirit

Experience a shamanic journey with Mark Nelson to the upper and lower worlds where you will meet spirit guides and retrieve wisdom. His upcoming workshop introduces participants to the history of shamanic practices and offers an insight into the healing aspects of this ancient method, giving everyone the opportunity to experience extraction healing. The Source Asia speaks to Mark Nelson about his “Introduction to Shamanism” workshop to find out more about soul retrieval and the benefits of journeying.

What can one expect from your “Introduction to Shamanism” workshop?

The workshop is designed to give participants an overview of what shamanism is, its historical context, and how it is relevant to us today. It will also introduce people to shamanic journeying, which is the act of intentionally shifting your consciousness in order to travel to meet spirit. This is typically done to retrieve wisdom and healing power.

I believe it will cover some of the healing aspects of Shamanism, how so?

Different forms of shamanic healing will be introduced including extraction healing, power animal retrieval, soul retrieval, long distance healing, and power passing (via objects or directly from spirit). The workshop attendees will directly experience extraction healing.

What is extraction healing?

Extraction healing is the removal of energy that does not belong in a person and which might cause illness or other symptoms. This energy is not necessarily negative - it just does not belong. Like all shamanic healing, extraction works on the spiritual aspects of ailments and may or may not have a direct connection with physical ailments.

Should people think of a particular issue they want to work on prior to attending the workshop?

Shamanic healing is essentially performed by spirit, which knows the healing that is most relevant for an individual at a given point in time. It is though of course okay to ask to receive healing for a particular condition.

It would be appropriate for people attending the workshop to think about what information they might want to obtain from spirit.

The workshop is said to be highly experiential. Who should attend?

The workshop is for anybody who is keen to learn more about the spirit world and how we can work with spirit. Shamanic practice has always been about direct experience of the divine, and the workshop format places an emphasis on this.

Does one need any previous shamanic experience to attend the workshop?

No, it is for people with little or no knowledge and is designed to provide a good overview of what shamanism is and how it may be relevant for those with an interest in self-development and/or working with spirit for the benefit of others or the Earth.

Can you elaborate some more on the shamanic journey?

This is one of the experiential aspects of the workshop. Journey work is at the heart of shamanism, and is the means by which shamanic practitioners travel to communicate with spirit.

mark_nelsonDo you do one-on-one sessions too?

My personal practice is primarily concerned with ceremony in nature and Earth healing, although I participate in long distance healing in conjunction with other shamanic practitioners on aregular basis, and will provide healing to individuals who request it. I do offer one-on-one sessions, the intent of which is to encourage and enable people to meet their own spirit guides and facilitate their personal development.
