Shamala Tan Tells Us What it Takes to Become an Ascended Master Shamala Swee Bee Tan found her spiritual path back in 1998 after overcoming her addiction to alcohol and other abusive substances. Soon after she started her healing and counseling work she came across Dr. Joshua David Stone’s work. Stone who is said to have ascended in 2005 famously founded the I AM University, a spiritual school that offers courses and workshops for people who aspire to transcend their earthly state and become ascended masters. Studying directly under Stone, Shamala has become an I Am University teacher herself, guiding students from around the world on how to become a clear channel and reach the goal of ascension. She speaks to Vivienne Tang about the challenges of channeling and the faith Joshua Stone had in her.
How is your work connected to the I Am U? Do you do one-on-ones as well? The spiritual work is connected to the I am University. I am the coach trainer of the I am U. So I coach other trainers. I also do most of the channeled sessions. That’s why I have an international clientele. I do recordings and send them to the clients on mp3. I do many types of channeled sessions. There is a wide variety the clients can choose from. I do things like ray and initiation readings, clearing of implants, akashic record readings, ascension activations, working with personal power and self-love etc.
How often do you do these channeled sessions? There is a very long waiting list of five to six months for the sessions. Travelling helps, I can see the clients, and they don’t have to be put on the waiting list. Every day I try to catch up. I do maximum three sessions per day, as I also have my other work. I do corporate training. I do intuitive counseling for people who might not be interested in the spiritual work yet. They don’t want to talk about spirituality. I do corporate talks. I go into companies and talk about EQ. Also, I don’t think it’s very good for me to spend too much time channeling per day. I enjoy it, but it’s not good for the energy system when we connect with the masters and channel all day long. These are heavenly energies that are coming down. It can make one quite ungrounded.
How do you help people on their ascension paths? The work we do at the I AM U really focuses on the development of consciousness, so we focus much on spiritual psychology, because without a clear psychology no matter how many ascension activations you do, you won’t be able to grow spiritually or hold the energy for too long. I take on students for a program that I have, and they sign up on a year to year basis. I give them weekly homework, meaning that they have to spend at least 4 hours of journaling and 4 hours of reading. They have to send it in for feedback every week, and I give them direction and guidance. For most people who join, within three to four weeks they find a very big difference in their consciousness and in how they view the world. Even though they’ve been on a spiritual path for a long time, they realize that the ego has been at work without them realizing it. We help them spot the ego. If we hang out with spiritual communities a lot… sometimes there is a lack of psychological work and one can become spiritually blinded, not seeing one’s shortcomings, or one tries to give spiritual reasons to why something is happening in their life, but not taking full responsibility.
So anyone can sign up fir this one-year program? The course is tailored to each student that joins the program. I recommend certain books, but the direction I take for each student is different. Each person has their own strengths and weaknesses.
How can the homework differentiate? If a person has issues from their childhood, and they do not resolve them and they are on a spiritual path, I would find that their perspective of God and their spiritual path would be very tainted by all the issues that they have. So at the beginning of the program we focus on their childhood issues. We teach them effective inner parenting skills. Another person might have issues with sexual abuse. Then we focus on the development of personal power and self-love. Each person is so different. So I have to know the history before we begin. This particular program is also like counseling in a way. They will have to report to me about their challenges they’ve had in that week. And I teach them how to deal with them from an ascended master consciousness as opposed to a personality level consciousness.
Joshua David Stone described you as an Integrated Ascended Master. As a channel, he feels that I have the ability to be integrated in my objectivity, allowing my channel to be open from a fuller perspective. What we channel is really dependant on the clarity within our consciousness. If our consciousness is limited, no matter how hard we try to channel information, we won’t be able to get the information. I think that’s what he meant when he described me.
What is your interpretation of ascension? I think most people in the spiritual movement tend to view ascension as leaving the planet and growing spiritually. But for me and the I Am Uni the real meaning of ascension is actually descension. It’s about bringing your spiritual energies down on to earth and creating this heaven on earth, uplifting the consciousness of the planet. In the beginning my goal was to quickly leave the planet and then I realized later that in the golden age it really requires people of integrity to be around to carry the energies to be of greater influence to the rest of humanity. We need people around, we can’t just all leave. Who else is going to do the work? It is challenging on the earth to operate from an ascended master consciousness. But I feel that I can be a better example if I live what I believe and have a positive influence. Ultimately all of us would like to aim for how Dr. Stone ascended and left his body to continue the work on the inner planes. All of us have this hope.
So one can ascend before he actually leaves the planet? In the I Am Uni terminology the ascension process begins when you reach the 6th initiation. When you reach the 7th initiation you are liberated from the wheel of physical rebirth. When you reach the 12th initiation you are at the beginning of becoming an integrated ascended master. When Dr. Stone says “integrated ascended master”, he’s also implying that I have reached 12th level and beyond. But the ascension that I’m speaking about regarding Dr. Stone is that he has completed planetary ascension, which is at the 22nd level of initiation. There are a lot of people on earth and in the new age movement who have already reached the ascended master status but they are what we call “kindergarten ascended masters”. They are still learning the process.
So when do soul and monad merge? In which initiation does that happen? That happens in three stages. It can happen at the 4th and 5th initiation and then 10th and 11th and then when you reach the 18th and 19th levels, that is the completion of the merging of soul and monad.
How does that feel? How does one experience that? I get indications in dreams. Sometimes I also have intense meditations. And on many occasions I’ve had visitations from spirit and the ascended masters.
Who do you usually channel? Kuan Yin, Djwal Khul, the 7 Chohans of the 7 Rays (El Morya, Kuthumi, Serapis Bey, Paul the Venetian, Hilarion, Sananda, The Violet Master and Saint Germain).
Joshua Stone also described you as the next life wave of Kuan Yin. Can you explain what he meant? The spiritual hierarchy that we have right now with the masters Kuthumi, Maitreya etc, they are moving on in their own evolution, and they need people to take over their positions. Dr. Stone believes that I would be the person to take over Kuan Yin’s position or represent the same energy. If I would take over her position, these would be very big shoes to fill. Of course it would be an honour.
How do you feel about that? I think it’s a compliment, but anything can happen until I leave the planet. Plans are constantly changing. I’m open to any opportunity to serve, and I think Dr. Stone really believes in my abilities.
Dr. Stone also mentioned that he was going to take over the office of Christ once he left the planet. He’s actually still in training. Before he left he was told this. This is why he left his body and went into the inner planes. He is training side by side with Lord Maitreya, and it will take some time before he truly takes over. And it won’t be in the immediate future.
Do you channel Joshua Stone? Mostly for myself. The person who channels him officially is Gloria Excelsias, Joshua’s assistant who has taken over I Am U.
What are his messages when he comes through? Mostly words of encouragement. Sometimes I need greater clarity for my own personal development and direction.
Tell us about your upcoming workshops in Hong Kong. I’ll be doing three workshops. One is on toning, where we’ll be making vibrations from our chakras and manifesting them as sounds. One will be on the ascension process and the 22 initiations. The first ten people that sign up will be given the initiation levels. I will channel the information from the masters. And one will be on channeling. I’ll be teaching people how to be a clear channel.
How can you become a clear channel? Do you have any tips? You really have to develop and refine your consciousness. You have to clear away all the blind spots and all the limited ways of seeing things. One also has to keep on learning. If I want to channel something on medical science, I will not be able to channel this effectively, unless I spend some time reading books on medical science. All channeling still comes through our subconscious mind, so if I don’t have information retained within my memory banks on medical sciences, I won’t be able to open the channel up to Master Hilarion for example to get info on medical science.
How do you work on yourself? How do you self-assess? I’ll make a list of areas of weaknesses that I have, and then I would track them. I would give myself a score and keep a constant check on it. Practicing awareness, the more aware I am of them, the better I become at overcoming them. It’s a 24 hour thing. We need to track where thoughts are going and where our attention is. We also need to pay attention to the pitfalls and the glamours of the spiritual path. It’s quite easy to get lost.
