Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Spreads Environmental Awareness

True to Fairmont’s ecological principal, the hotel group’s three properties in China, Fairmont Yangcheng Lake, Fairmont Peace Hotel and Fairmont Beijing will join forces on September 8 and 9 to hold the first Green Open Doors weekend program, which is open to the public.

Packed with activities, the Green Open Doors weekend invites guests and local residents to learn how each hotel incorporates environmentally-friendly practices into their daily operations with free behind-the-scenes hotel tours and cooking demonstrations.

At Fairmont Yangcheng Lake, the tours will explore the organic farm and guests will be able to sample the home-grown produce. At the iconic Fairmont Peace Hotel and Fairmont Beijing, guests will tour the environmentally intuitive guestrooms, restaurants, as well as the hotel’s kitchens where cooking demonstrations will be hosted with resident chefs, including Chef Steven Liu, judge for Master Chef. Furthermore, at Fairmont Peace Hotel, the tours will incorporate a talk hosted by local partner Roots & Shoots educating guests on their environmental stewardship.

Throughout the month of September, each property will be serving up special eco-themed menus in their restaurants for a taste of sustainable dining at its freshest.

In addition to Fairmont Yangcheng Lake’s organic farm and beehives, Fairmont Beijing also supports a group of intellectually challenged teens to build necessary skills to help harvest the farms, which supply fruits and vegetables for the hotels.
