Greening Hong Kong's Hotels

The Langham Place in Mongkok has just got greener, as the hotel has launched a program to grow your own organic garden. The program doesn’t only serve as a beautification tool for the hotel’s rooftop, but also as a means to raise awareness of a healthier lifestyle. The organic garden is now accessible to all hotel staff and acts as an education platform for classes where they will teach organic gardening. The “gardeners’ will be able to experience the life cycle of their own plant, as they look after it on a regular basis, and all vegetation is edible once ripe.

It will feature a diversity of vegetables, as well as herbs and spices, which will be future ingredients for dishes and drinks.

“The garden will allow us to get up close and personal with the freshest ingredients grown with our own hands, and allow pairings with whatever guests wish to have on menu, giving them a true taste of their dish,” says Executive Chef, West, Paul McLoughlin.

On top of that, the hotel has even gone so far to recycle food waste and fallen leaves to fertilize existing vegetation. And for all guests driving a green electrical car to Langham Place, the hotel is offering to pump it up for free, at the newly installed, eco-friendly electric vehicle charger.
