Iconic Footwear Maestro Designs Sustainable Shoes The combination of Tilapia skin, raffia and cork might not scream fashion, but shoe icon Manolo Blahnik and Marcia Patmos from Lutz & Patmos, have created one of spring’s chic must-haves by going “green” in this latest shoe collaboration. “I am always researching sustainable materials and developments,” says eco-conscious designer Marcia Patmos. “I love the idea of tilapia skin because it is a by-product of the food industry that would otherwise be discarded, but it’s actually a beautiful material perfect for small leather goods. I love bringing the idea of sustainability into the luxury market — it doesn’t have to be limited to T-shirts and grocery bags.” Choosing environmentally friendly materials is a new territory for Blahnik, but together they designed two new sustainable styles – a strappy high-heeled stiletto and a two-strap open-toe flat. The chic new things come in nude, yellow, bright blue and black, and will hit Manolo Blahnik stores in spring. Both shoes are estimated to sell at US$895
