Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to Create Eco-Awareness To raise awareness regarding climate change and the effects it has on Mount Kilimanjaro’s glaciers, six climbers from Hong Kong will try to scale Africa’s highest peak, which stands at 19,340 ft above sea level (15 times higher than the Empire State Building in New York). The six climbers, including celebrity models Rosemary Vandenbroucke, Jocelyn Luko, Anthony Sandstrom, as well as banker Janice Chia, photographer Jack Brockway and Tatler editor-at-large Sean Lee Davies (who will lead the team) collectively aim to raise HK$600,000 for charity. The team will begin the 8-day climb on February 11.
Only 50% of the climbers make it to the top, but the team has been training for the mentally and physically challenging expedition. Most of them have done similar climbs in the past and scaled Mount Kinabalu and Annapurna Base Camp. The team also ensures that they leave nothing but their footprints behind. All donations go straight to the charity you donate to, supporting either WWF or Oxfam. The collection deadline is March 31. For more information go to www.projectcchange.com
