| Wyclef Jean Helps Haitian Earthquake Victims |

The HipHop Star Calls Everyone including Hollywood for Help Wyclef Jean, who was born in Haiti, has issued a call for help after the 7.0 earthquake hit his home country on Tuesday, January 12. More than 100,000 people are feared dead.
Jean is urging all friends and fans around the world to collectively help Haiti. Jean, who founded the nonprofit Yele Haiti organization, formerly the Wyclef Jean Foundation, in 2005 to fund projects in education, health, environment and community development in Haiti, is now asking all people to use their cell phone to text "Yele" to 501501, which will automatically donate $US5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund. He has already raised more than $US1.9 million so far and is currently in Haiti "giving aid and assessing the situation," according to his website, www.yele.org. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were among the first to reach out to Haiti by donating $US1.1 million from their foundation to Doctors Without Borders.
Madonna has donated $US250,000 through Partners in Health.
Actor George Clooney will be joined by Jean and other celebrities to host a commercial-free telethon called “Hope for Haiti” to raise funds for the earthquake victims. The event will be broadcast on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, HBO and all MTV Network channels on Friday, January 22 at 8pm ET/PT.
Furthermore, singer Shakira has asked her fans for donations to help rebuild Haiti to be channelled through UNICEF and Jean's foundation.
Coldplay musician Chris Martin has called for donations through Oxfam, whose global ambassador, actress Scarlett Johansson, has also been urging her fans to make donations.
Oprah Winfrey has asked viewers of her popular show to donate to the Red Cross.
Actor Ben Stiller, who has been raising money for a school in Ceverine in Haiti through Save the Children, also made an appeal for $US10 donations charged to phone bills by texting "Haiti" to 90999.
First Lady Michelle Obama has made a public appeal for the texting campaign, which has raised $US5.9 million for the Red Cross.
Cycling legend Lance Armstrong's LiveStrong Foundation has pledged $US250,000 to help Haiti's recovery, according to its website.
