Amanresorts in Hangzhou Amanresorts is set to launch its second property in China next January. Named after a Tang Dynasty village, which once inhabited the site, Amanfayun will offer guests a unique rural retreat on the outskirts of Hangzhou. The historic Chinese city is famous for its picturesque West Lake, countless pagodas, historic temples, botanical gardens, vast wetland areas and famous Longjing Tea plantations. Hidden in a valley, Amanfayun consists of 47 stone courtyard dwellings that once housed villagers from the tea plantations. The relaxing resort is surrounded by fields, temples, groves of bamboo and densely forested hills. Amanfayun also offers plenty of sightseeing, as it lies within a pilgrimage circuit of five significant Buddhist temples, currently under review by UNESCO as both a cultural and religious heritage site.
Amanfayun extends over 42 rooms, which include suites that open on to courtyards and duplex villas with massage treatment rooms. Though the original structure of the dwellings is respected, all the rooms enjoy the luxury of under-floor heating, air conditioning and Wi-Fi internet. Surrounded by tea bushes, bamboo groves and magnolia trees, the extensive spa includes a reflexology room, bath house, several treatment rooms for couples, a movement studio with Tai Chi, yoga and meditation rooms, a fully-equipped gym, a Pilates studio, as well as a finishing salon where guests can treat themselves to manicures, pedicures and waxing. The body treatments are inspired by traditional Chinese massage and reflexology and incorporate ancient Asian healing therapies.
Shops sell antiques, crafts and silks, and the restaurants serve local, as well as Western cuisine, whereas the Tea House offers traditional tea along with a selection of handmade sweet and savoury delicacies. The resort also boasts a lounging area, Cigar Room and library with books and DVDs to educate curious visitors on the history and culture of China.
