Lane Crawford Collaborates with Hong Kong Dog Rescue

Lane Crawford's home store at Pacific Place is collaborating with charity organisation Hong Kong Dog Rescue (HKDR) that rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes abandoned and unwanted dogs. All animal and dog-lovers are invited to come and show their support from September 24 to October 8, 2009. During that period the shop will showcase a selection of Hong Kong Dog Rescue’s 2010 diaries, calendars, T-shirts and tribute books, as well as pet accessories and designs from other brands that are available at Lane Crawford (see photos below), including Gaia & Gino, GR.J, Mungo & Maud and Reiko Kaneko. Proceeds will contribute to help HKDR relocate and build a new kennel, as their current Pok Fu Lam site is due for redevelopment. Almost all the dogs there come from the AFCD Animal Management Centres. These are dogs and puppies that have either been found as strays and handed in by members of the public, or have been surrendered by their owners directly. Many have been caught by the government dog catchers and are due to be destroyed after only four days unless they are chosen for re-homing or reclaimed by their owners. A few dogs are accepted directly by HKDR from their owners.

HKDR, which is run by Sally Andersen, was first set up in 2002 to save dogs from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) government kennels, and in March 2005 the organization gained full charity (non-profit) status. What started as a one-person mission has now become one of Hong Kong’s most active and successful dog re-homing organizations.
