Hypnotherapy Can be the Answer to Our Issues

Did you know that Hypnosis is a state of consciousness one enters and leaves naturally all the time when we go about our daily lives? And it is in this relaxed state that we have access to our subconscious mind, enabling us to change the way we think about things, people, situations and our entire life.

“Hypnosis is more like a relaxation,” says French born Julien Willm, who specialises in Hypnotherapy. “And everybody can relax. Hypnosis is very good for people who have trouble relaxing. Often they say, ‘Wow I can relax after all.’ It’s a big realization for them.”

Stress is only one of the many issues you can address with hypnotherapy, others are phobia, pain, smoking and weight management to name a few, basically anything (emotional or physical) that you have addressed in your conscious mind, but that you just can’t seem to resolve in your subconscious. Hypnosis is a powerful tool to create long-lasting changes.

With his corporate background Willm, who has also studied Kinesiology and Reiki, now focuses on Hypnotherapy, which he fuses with Regression Therapy. “When you regress you go back to the root of the problem,” says Willm. “So it’s quite nice to start the regression with hypnosis, especially if it’s the first time. It helps the person to relax.”

Finding the reason behind one’s addiction can be the start of great change and transformation. “A regression isn’t for everybody though,” states Willm. Once he figures out with his client what they want to achieve and change in their life, he starts the hypnosis session. The whole treatment takes one hour, and often hypnosis will take care of an issue within a few sessions. “It depends on the background of the person and what they come for,” Willm says. “If they want to stop smoking, usually one session is enough. It’s really powerful.”

But Willm also clarifies that the client needs to be willing to resolve the issue and to stop the addiction, without that commitment he would even turn away a client. “I need to know if they really want to stop,” states Willm. “Sometimes I have people who come to me, saying that their wife wants them to stop smoking. Then I ask them, “Do you really want to stop?” And they say, “Emmm not really.” So I don’t even go there. The person has to be willing.”

Every session is different for each person, depending on the circumstances. There are different techniques for different people. During each treatment he speaks to the client, and due to the hypnotized and relaxed state, Willm is able to talk to the client’s subconscious.

“I talk to them and find out about the background of smoking,” says Willm. “‘Did you just pick up smoking last week or have you been smoking for the last 30 years? I need to know more about when you smoke, where, when did you start and why?’ I do this before the hypnosis starts. I have a questionnaire that you fill out. So I have a better picture of why the person is smoking.

One of the solutions Willm highlights would be to give them a substitute. “I will get them to find things to replace smoking and situations that will give them the same benefits that smoking gives them,” claims Willm. “If they’re used to smoking during a walk, they would visualize themselves walking. Then we would find out something else that they could do that gives them the same benefit. If it’s an excuse for a break for example, then they could go and grab a glass of water. Quite often people are very creative, and they find solutions on their own, and sometimes I help them a little bit.”

Willm also works with depressed clients, while they’re being treated by a medical doctor on the side. During the hypnosis he would give them positive suggestions to change their way of thinking. “When you’re depressed you see the glass half empty instead of half full,” he says. “The subconscious is really like a sponge. All the experiences you have in your life, you store them in your subconscious. Once it’s in your subconscious, you can do whatever you want consciously to change it, but it will stay. But under hypnosis you will be able to tap into that field.”

Willm’s main goal is to help unlock people’s innate healing abilities, while nurturing a strong balance between mind, body and spirit. He offers Hypnotherapy sessions at Balance Health and sees private clients at different places in Central and Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. He also teaches self-hypnosis, which is very easy to learn. Furthermore, Willm has recently become a Certified Matrix Energetics Practitioner.
