Veg Out at San Francisco inspired Veggie Restaurant Located in the midst of the bustling Central business district on Stanley street, Veggie SF was packed when we went there for lunch. The restaurant offers a nice alternative to the meat and seafood restaurants in the city with its menu of healthy vegetarian dishes. The colourful ‘50s and San Francisco inspired interior design showcases hand-picked knick-knacks from its owners Paul and Bess Choi – posters, signed footballs and helmets from the 49ers, ice skates, dated adverts.
Even though the atmosphere is a trip down memory lane, the menu offers an up-to-date variety of US, Japanese, Taiwanese and European food. I went for the “Union
We were both full after the main dish, leaving us to try the lovely chocolate truffle cake and Pomelo ice cream desserts another time. The restaurant also offers itself as a venue for parties, anniversaries and special events. It fills up fast, especially during lunch hours. A reservation is highly recommended. Square” organic Lasagne with mixed vegetables, cheese and yummy pesto and my dining partner selected the “Oakland Breeze” Vietnamese style cold vermicelli with tofu. Both dishes came with smooth pumpkin ginger soup and a selection of tea or coffee. Other than that, they also offer organic soda, American iced tea, Snapple, smoothies and juices, as well as alcohol free beer.
All dishes are very simple and, unlike American dishes, very normal in size. All meals are prepared with fresh ingredients and are reasonably priced – Lunch Sets cost between $78 and $98.
