Fashion cognoscentis will be excited to hear that there’s an alternative to the latest off-the-rack fashion collections. Era is the answer to all your vintage designer evening wear desires. Founder of Era, Tina Leung, who's also one of Hong Kong's leading fashion stylists, tells us how vintage retail is taken to a personal level, as clients can choose from a selection of gowns in the comfort of their own four walls. But not only will the service include a tailor, who will create the perfect fit, but it also extends to finding the matching pair of shoes and clutch to complement your outfit.

What does Era stand for?

When one speaks of vintage pieces, one usually references the era the piece came from, the 50s or the 70s and so on. So I thought 'Era' was perfect. It's simple and to the point, yet still evokes the feeling of vintage, of history...

How did you come up with this idea?

I've always loved vintage, and I've always loved glamour, so I thought I'd combine the two and sell vintage designer evening wear. I also like the idea of a retail service where the customer is just absolutely spoilt. The pieces are brought to the customer, as well as the tailor, even matching shoes and jewellery if needed.

Where do you find these gowns?

The gowns are mainly picked up on my travels throughout various cities. Depending on the era the dress is from, the condition etc, I am very open to donations and buying from others.

Which designers/brands are your vintage pieces from?

We have Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Givenchy, Galanos and Estevez. I'm planning on bringing in more from a variety of brands such as Thierry Mugler, Chanel, Ossie Clark, Halston and many, many more in the coming months. I can also source gowns for the customer if a certain colour, style, or brand is desired.

How do you know what to bring to a person’s home? Is there a pre-selection?

What plans do you have? Will you be sourcing men’s vintage suits soon?

I'll be expanding into costume jewellery soon, but no plans for men's as of yet.

How much does this service cost?

If matching accessories are desired, that will be an additional fee depending on the work involved. Prices of gowns vary, so it's better to contact Era for exact prices.
